Standard Photoshop knowledge


you need easy.Fliter a photoshop pluggin,
you need a copy of topaz denoise, another photoshop pluggin(torrent it)
basic knowledge of photoshop (saving files and EASY crap like that) Other than that we can teach you.
So
Now that that's out of the way.

Tools used:
Format it'll be in
TOOL (SHORTCUT:MODIFIER + KEY) USES
Move Tool (v) Used for moving text, images or other object in Photoshop


Brush Tool (b) Used for editting the background image usually redrawing SFX.


Eraser Tool (e) Used to erase Japanese Text.


Text Tool (t NOTE: you cannot use shortcuts while the text tool is active) Used for Typesetting


Patch Tool/Healing Brush Tool (j) used for redrawing, it takes the "Texture" of whatever you select and moves it around. make a selection and then right click with the patch tool and it gives you a menu you can use patch as source or destination. NOTE: this tool is also a Healing brush tool It will be either an Icon of a bandaid or a patch If you don't know what it is simply Click and hold on it. It will bring up a small menu. and then click the tool you want.


Clone Stamp Tool/Pattern Stamp Tool (s) used for redrawing, it "Clones" what you select. HOW TO USE: (Alt + LEFT mouse button) to choose what you want to clone. click and move the mouse to draw the stuff in.


SEE Patch tool about the menu. as this is also a Pattern Stamp Tool

OTHER USEFUL SHORTCUTS
Spacebar = turns you cursor into a hand to easily navigate the screen.
x = change from primary to secondary color
CTRL + x = delete
CTRL + S = save
CTRL + SHIFT + S = save as * Very useful
CTRL + Z = Undo ONCE ONLY
CTRL + ALT + Z = Undo multiple times
CTRL + C and CTRL + V are copy and paste
ALT CLICKING with the BRUSH TOOL will give you the eyedropper tool.











NOW:

You use the text tool to write words that the translator's give you.

You simply start reading the text will look like this

Right 4 bubbles: Oh noes Demon doesn't// know what to write for this stuff//why is god so//CRUEL!!!


every time you see a // means it goes in the next logical bubble.


NOTES:

use center text for the love of all that is good.

make sure you get the text as close to the center as possible.

Make it as big as the bubble permits.




INSTALLING FONTS:


is easy

start menu -> control panel -> fonts
now drag the downloaded font files into the area with the other fonts and you are done.

FONTS WE USE:

wild words: standard words
Wild words BOLD: yelling

deathrattle bb = screaming

feast of flesh = higanjima's miyabi, open and end titles.

Also, you use the move tool (v)
to arrange the text to a spot you like.

if you open photoshop at the bottom of the layer's menu you will see an "fx" tab

click it -> click "stroke" -> change the color to white and size to two

this allows you to place words over images after a redraw has been done.

DO THIS ONLY FOR REDRAW WORDS NOT ONES IN BUBBLES!!************

Ctrl + Alt + + - allows Zoom In
Ctrl + Alt + - - for Zoom Out
Ctrl + Alt + 0 - Actual Pixels
Spacebar for "hand" tool
Ctrl - Changes cursor for "Move" tool
Ctrl + Shift - "Move" tool but in straight line
Ctrl + Alt - Duplicate layer
Ctrl + Shift + . - increase text size
Ctrl + Shift + , - decrease text size

More Notes:
-Other than trying to keep text as centralised as possible, aim for the diamond/circular shape, that is smaller at bot and top, fatter at the middle. It's not always possible, but it's nicer as it follows the bubbles shape.
-Normal speech (usually regular circular bubble), go for smaller size, try to keep consistant, usually about 5 or 6pt. Leave gaps around the text if possible, don't try to fill it to the brim.
-SHOUT speech (usually in jaggy bubble), use bold but also Capital text (some fonts such as WildWords are Capital regardless), Try to fill up the bubble as best you can (within reason), BUT NEVER TOUCH OR CROSS OVER THE BUBBLE BOUNDARY!!

Typeset it don't worry bout fonts or sizes make everything AS BIG AS FUCKING POSSIBLE
every bubble is a new use of the text tool.
After that reupload and send to me and i'll hook up the proper fonts and sizes and we'll do a double release.


If you have more room make it bigger.

Reason's for IT'S EASIER TO READ BIGGER WORDS! The less zooming the reader has to do the better!

Say, I got a question, after I put the font in with PS, do I convert it to a JPEG?

If you rasterize it you can no longer make simple changes and have to retype all the words that would be in the bubble

Quick question - For sfx, should the text be placed directly over the original Japanese?

Nevermind... there never was any translated sfx. I suppose I'm just being paranoid.

If there are sfx to typeset then yes over the original's SPACE we will clean it and redraw it so it'll look just like the rest of the page.

Another random question - What exactly do typesetters do? I would imagine that they put the text in, but are they allowed to do any additional changes to the translator's text?

For example, let us say that within the included text document, there is a line

Is it the typesetter's responsibility to add in punctuation, capitalization, or fix grammatical errors, or does that responsibility fall to the quality checker or some other individual?

Lol I was joking in my fixes, but yes you are allowed to change things in order to make them better. Hell I do it all the time.

You should also get acquainted with the transformation tool. With it you can skew rotate and stretch text, the short cut is

Ctrl + t

Also, when making changes to the text, it's always best to verify with Proof Reader just in case as any complaints go to them

Stroke is a godsend. You can add a different colour around the text to make it stand out more.

Indeed. Before I knew what it was(on parts of shuukyuu shoujo).
I made a new layer, selected the text, expanding the selection by 3 pixels, and brushed on the new layer what colour I needed. This is obviously MUCH faster.

Each project uses different fonts.

cant you make this into a sticky so it would be on the top?
i mean if its on the top, then more people would see the tips and would be able to read it. because i barely noticed this was here.
