My girlfriend bought a new laptop, a Vaio Z series, and theres one thing i don't know about the spec of her laptop... the storage says 512GB (256GBx2) Solid State Drive with RAID 0, and what exactly is this Solid State Drive?

a SSD is a newer alternative to the traditional Hard drive. It's faster, uses less power, and it's usually more reliable.
Faster = Faster data access. Meaning faster start up and it runs programs faster.

I can't say much else since I don't own one, they're expensive as hell for the size they provide.
(at the moment, 240GB SSD is around $500+ while a 2TB Normal HD can be as little as $100)

Sorry if this isn't much help, but you can go and look at most computer review sites if you want more info than what I know lol.

aright, will do... well it kinda made me wonder cause there are no drive noises present in it... and yeah, it's kinda fast, in fact a it's a lot faster than my laptop considering we have the same spec aside from the storage... gonna go look up what really is this solid state drive...
yeah the start-up is awesome. even faster than my laptop resuming from hibernation

and yeah the price... the whole thing costs around 270,000yen

Holy crap that's expensive for a laptop. Over here at least (also depends if you're a student or not lol.)

Even normal Alienware laptops aren't that much. And to think... i was looking at an Acer for 800 bucks and fussing over the price = =;

she's a student LOL... my laptop only costs 60,000yen! (well it was a campaign promo bundled with an VDSL internet)
..uhm well the spec somehow is the same as alienware m17x or somehow outclasses it. alienware is made for gaming, so as this laptop can be used for gaming too, but well, me and my girl only play visual novels.. and when i asked her why did she bought it her answer was simple, the layout of the laptop she wants is only available in vaio z series....

At the price of around 3100 dollars it'd better outclass an alienware computer....
Especially with 2 solid state drives.
I could build a kickass desktop for half of that lol.

Guess I can't use being a student as an excuse. Meh, let's just say I'm cheap and too lazy to work all year round.
