Good news: TL for GTO 46 wasn't posted in my absence.

Bad news...
I spent the last 27 hours in the hospital. I'll post pics later as proof if necessary.

How does this affect the group? Well, my type speed has decreased dramatically and I'm pretty depressed about the whole situation. I almost lost a finger, and I won't be able to clean or redraw for a while. I'll be able to proofread, but I may make more typos than usual since I'm right handed and now have to type with my left hand.


Events preceding hospital visit: Incur injury at location 1. Ride train for 15 minutes while trying to remain conscious (almost blacked out several times). Stopped a few stations before my usual stop. I asked the transit officer about some first aid.
"The first aid kit is upstairs, go ask them."
*Goes upstairs*
A few minutes later somebody finally grabs the first aid officer.
"I'm not current, but I'll take a look."

After observing the wound he refused to administer first aid and simply told me to go to the hospital.
I spent the next 10 or so minutes walking to the hospital, waited probably an hour before actually receiving medical attention, was asked the same questions over and over again, and finally received a minute amount of aid.
As it turned out they couldn't fit me in, so I stayed overnight at the hospital. This morning I was about to go into theater to have surgery, and some lady shows up needing an emergency C-section. After being bunked back a couple of hours I finally had my hand fixed, and after being held for observation I'm now back at home.

Holy shit.

@Xezrei: It's not really a matter of getting well. Initially they told me that if I didn't have a broken bone it would take a bare minimum of 6 weeks to heal. As it turned out, in addition to to needing to have my finger sewn back together I have a compound fracture. Good fun.

@Rue: Proofreading with one hand won't be too bad, I'll just be slower than usual.
As for what happened, I'm still looking for a picture to accompany the story, but:
Whilst other countries have sliding doors, older trains in Australia have these large metal doors between carriages that swing shut. I was following somebody from one carriage to the next. I stuck my hand out to grab the door when they slammed the door behind them, striking only one of my fingers.

Large metal door + velocity of person slamming large metal door + finger = bone and muscle being torn from flesh.

I can't take the bandage off yet, not until after I see a specialist (who will probably tell me to keep it on). It won't look as gruesome as it did before being stitched up, but hopefully it'll still illustrate the point.

Same sorta thing, big metal door. But this guy can cut himself with anything blunt, when he has knives(when cooking) he never does anything to himself.

Shit life... heal up fast man. The hostpital fucked up bad, I hope their service isn't always like that.

The hospital staff were okay, there was just one nurse who annoyed me. She missed the vein twice, and later when trying to replace the bandage her hand kept slipping, shifting the two pieces of my finger and grinding them together.
The cityrail staff, however, pissed me off immensely. They fucked around, passed me from one staff member to the next, and when they did locate their first aid officer (or whatever they're called, I'm certain they're legally required to have one) it turned out he wasn't current in his training and he refused to even bandage the wound up.

I feel sorry for you, guy. Hopefully you won't be depressed too long. Take a long, deserved rest and come back whenever you wish in the meantime. If you can't PR as fast as before, I'll make sure I don't leave one of those weird TL mistakes I alone do (bras turned into brats, for instance XD).

man, you really had it hard with that one...
My hands are, with my legs, the part of my body that I really don't want to injure. It mess so much your eveyday life when that happen. And even more the right hand...

I went to the doctors today (couldn't get an appointment with a specialist), and it turns out the hospital hasn't/hadn't forwarded the details about my stay onto my GP. The doctor removed the dressing on the wound (which was difficult; my blood stuck the dressing to my stitches), then inspected it himself.
I have to go back on Saturday for another redressing, then again on Tuesday to get the stitches taken out and make sure the bone is healing properly.

Ah well, I got to see my finger in one piece again

Nope. Tuesday maybe, but I have to keep it bandaged so that it doesn't get infected in the mean time. Besides, if I take it off I'll have to go back to the doctor to get it re-dressed.
