PostSubject: Anybody have a good recipe for tamagoyaki?   Anybody have a good recipe for tamagoyaki? EmptyMon May 09, 2011 11:17 am

I can't really find a good one online. I don't have a lot of the traditional Japanese ingredients, but I did manage to find mirin and some yakinori. And a square frying pan. The problem is, I can't find a good balance with the ingredients, so it just tastes weird. Any help?

This is complicated by the fact that I'm not very fond of eggs, but tamagoyaki looks so good... and I'm obsessed with making bento foods Embarassed

lul wut. It requires an egg, soy sauce, and sugar. Salt and mirin are optional.
Beat the egg along with soysauce and sugar in a bowl or something, just a few table spoons of sugar, and a bit of soy sauce. Then cook it in the pan, flipping it and folding it every so often, adding more of the mixture bit by bit.(I don't bother with salt, since I like mine really sweet)
I do it the simple way where you don't really care about the appearance. My mom taught me the quick way.

My instructions are extremely sloppy and vague since I just do it rather than think about it, I'd suggest looking at this tutorial.

hmm Tamogayaki is basically Japanese styled egg omelette ?
hmm i tried looking at this site : http://japanesefood.about.com/od/egg/r/tamagoyaki.htm
maybe that will help and i got the site to make dashi soup to put in the tamagoyaki. http://www.justhungry.com/2003/11/japanese_basics.html lol you can ignore the wall of text and scroll down to the recepie here but I think reading that wall of text is quite interesting : O haha Hmm i hope this helps :/ If you do not like this recepie do tell me! I think I do have some cook books lying around my house I'll find a good recipe for ya! ^^ [I have made[technically] tamagoyaki but it was more like my friend did not let me do anything other than washing the dishes and cutting the things :/ and it was not the traditional style lol]

Thx for the link rue.

It looked so good I wanted to take a photo ^^
OMFG it tasted really good. Gotta do it again someday.
But I used the egg yolks only. Was I wrong?

@ Frozen: I need to find some katsuo dashi then...
